Viennese Cabaret Star Memoirs
Life as the daughter of a cabaret artiste in Vienna between the wars
This is the true story of a lyrically happy childhood spent in Europe between the wars. But it is much more than that. Rosl Berndt, the author’s mother, was a distinguished and famous cabaret artiste, who started her career as child star Die Kleine Rosl and returned to the stage after marrying a Hungarian impresario and having a daughter, Liesl. While her mother is away on tour, Liesl is brought up by her adored grandmother, Bronya, who provides her with a secure, regulated and loving home life. Legal Academia and an Overlawyered America
From Barack Obama (Harvard and Chicago) to Bill and Hillary Clinton (Yale), many of our current national leaders emerged from the rarefied air of the nation’s top law schools. The ideas taught there in one generation often shape national policy in the next.
The trouble is our elite law schools keep churning out ideas that are catastrophically bad for America. From class action lawsuits that promote the right to sue anyone over anything to court orders mandating the mass release of prison inmates; from the movement for slavery reparations to court takeovers of school funding–all of these appalling ideas were hatched in legal academia. And the worst is yet to come. A fast-rising movement in law schools demands that sovereignty over U.S. legal disputes be handed over to international law and transnational courts.
It is not by coincidence, Olson argues, that these bad ideas all tend to confer more power on the law schools’ own graduates. In the overlawyered society that results, they are the ones who become the real rulers.

How one man’s journey through France helped him come to terms with the loss of his wife…
In 1997 Terry Dillon made the most mentally and physically gruelling journey of his life: a month-long trip around France on a fully-laden bicycle camping throughout the “hard way”. His trip, however, had a huge significance: it was a spiritual act, an opportunity to thank his wife, who had recently died, for all she had meant to him. A moving and absorbing account of deep, raw grief and how grit and physical endeavour can help in facing the pain of bereavement and how, through physical and spiritual struggle, one man came to an acceptance of loss.
From the moment he wobbles his way on to the cross-Channel ferry, the reader shares Terry’s hard, physical day-to-day tussles with bike, canvas, Michelin guide and, of course, the natives, both friendly and less so. At the same time, the reader is also taken on a spiritual journey, culminating in the hugely symbolic climax of the book. Along the way lie amusement, sympathy, and a beautifully-sketched personal view of France from a writer whose historian’s eye is as keen as his love of fresh air.
Terry Dillon is the son of a “hard-working Yorkshire miner” graduated in a history from London University and also has a teacher’s certificate from St Mary’s College, Twickenham. Formerly a senior lecturer at two Leeds colleges, he has during his career, been a headmaster in Nottingham, a government schools inspector before becoming an independent educational consultant. He now lives in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.

Astro-Navigation From Square One To Ocean-Master
At last! A book and e-book that teaches Astro-navigation by understanding!
“Astro-navigation from Square One to Ocean-master”
Published January 2011 by Authors Online. See at: astronav-square-one.com
Every year sailors start reading astronav texts and most founder on the rocks of confusion. Why is this?
*astronav uses an entirely new language.
*the subject requires an ability to think in 3D.
*students imagine that hundreds of stars need to be recognised.
*the maths presumed to be necessary is daunting.
*the underlying science is thought to be impenetrable.
*the navigational tables are many and complex.
*much is learned by rote without a deeper understanding.
The RYA Yachtmaster Ocean shore-based theory course syllabus admirably teaches the essentials in 40 hours, but even this necessarily covers only briefly much of the subject that is required for a detailed and lasting knowledge.
“Astro-navigation from Square One to Ocean-master” aims to bridge the gaps with a comprehensive text of the subject, designed to teach by understanding.
About the Author:
Alan Murray is a British surgeon, teacher and yacht-master, having taken early retirement, single-handed his boat to the Mediterranean. Six years ago he began to learn astro and found that the available texts, while necessarily focussing on the essentials, left much to the imagination. He forensically takes the subject apart and then rebuilds it using his narrative and drawing skills into the text of this book and e-book, using feed-back from professionals and amateurs alike.
About the book/e-book
As the title suggests: – it begins at the very beginning, needing no prior knowledge and then progresses in a logical stepwise fashion through the skills required to use astro-navigation to cross an ocean. Each new concept builds on a solidly-based body of UNDERSTANDING. There is no “learning by rote”, no “just fill in the proforma”. The text, in 308 pages, is complimented by a 130-word glossary, over 160 diagrams and 40 worked examples, all using 2011 Sun, Moon, planet and star data. The parts relevant to the current RYA Yachtmaster Ocean syllabus are indicated so that the book can be used in parallel to formal course study.
